*Ms. Stratton's English & Reading Class*

English 2R

My goal for all of my students in English 1/2 is to help all students improve their reading and writing skills. I value the opportunity to provide each student with individualized instruction to meet their individual needs. Everything in this course is designed to give students the necessary skills to succeed in subsequent high school English classes and on the CAHSEE.

 Weekly Assignment Calendar

Current Unit

We are going to begin the year by engaging in a few 'get to know you' activities. We will then move on to a short nonfiction unit to gauge student comprehension levels and abilities. After the nonfiction unit we will begin our fabulous reading program, REWARDS. REWARDS stands for Reading Excellence: Word Attack and Rate Development Strategies. This is a researched based reading program that helps students improve their reading skills through decoding so that they are able to read multisyllabic words, which typically carry the meaning of the content in core class textbooks. REWARDS also works on comprehension and reading fluency.
